Pics are not the actual cars except for the ones you already know from Oppo, but I have tried to find pics that are as close as I can get. All the colors are correct except the Olds and the Sparlingco. There is a large black and white picture of me as a senior in high school with the original Celica , but it is in storage.
1981 Toyota Celica ST Sparlingco Full Convertible Conversion: 1987-1989
I loved that car, and started working on the road crew as a high school freshman in the summer to get it. 5 Speed stick, base model with dark brown metallic paint, gold wheels, and a thin orange and yellow stripe down the sides. I totaled it going to pick up my tux for my senior prom. My biggest automotive tragedy.
1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon: 1989-1991
Fuck that car. I dance on Oldsmobile’s grave. I got some of that generational GM hate going on. To paraphrase Henry Ford, fuck those guys.
1987 Acura Integra LS 5 door hatch (5 Speed manual): 1991-1998
This was the workhorse of all my cars. I abused it horribly through my college and law school years, and it never let me down. I drove it all over the Southwestern US, and across the country to Vermont and back. In terms of pure quality and durability, it was the best.
1989 Acura Legend 4 Door 1998-2001
Nice car, I liked it perfectly well, but it never got my blood going. I dumped it when the master cylinder failed because I wanted an excuse to get something else.
1991 Nissan Maxima: 2001-2002
I liked this car. It was the most fun big sedan I have ever driven, and it was sneaky fast with taut handling. It was totaled in an accident where I was not at fault. An F150 made a left turn in front of me and there was nothing I could do. I was very sad because it was such a cool car, and I knew I could not afford to replace it with something comparable.
2000 Ford Taurus SES: 2002-2005
What I could afford after the Maxima. This was a totally utilitarian car, embodied nowhere more than the utterly ordinary Ford early aughts interior. It was a perfectly fine car. I drove it for a few years, then gave it to my wife so our babies could barf all over the interior. I sold it for $3500 in Salinas, way more than it was worth, to a guy who figured out after the fact that he paid too much and called me for months wanting part of his money back. He did not get it. Deal’s a deal, bro.
2005 Mazda6 (sedan, 4 cylinder auto) 2005-2005:
Bad purchase. Good car, but should have stretched the budget
for the V6 manual and should have bought the hatch. Right idea, poorly executed. I got a raise and traded up.
2005 RX-8 GT (6 speed manual): 2005-2013
Best driving car I have ever owned...when it worked right. I put 180k miles on that thing. My wife decided that after the telltale white smoke of rotary death occurred for the second time that it was time to go. My kids cried when I traded it in. My wife will never allow me to even suggest that Mazda makes a decent car.
2013 Infiniti G37S Coupe: 2013 -2015
They took the borked rotary off my hands in a trade. I liked this car, but I tired of it quickly. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about it, but I just got tired of it. It had a very cramped interior, and I gained a lot of weight in this period, which may have contributed.
1981 Toyota Celica GT (Sunchaser conversion, 6 speed manual): 2014-present
You have heard a few things about this car. I searched for a Sparlingco for 2.5 years without a whiff of one. When I found my yellow Sunchaser in Sacramento on Craigslist, I could not resist. Paid $5k, and have sunk a bit more than that into it.
2001 Vespa ET4 150: 2014-present
Was looking for a Honda CT70 to play with and stumbled across a beat to shit Vespa in Visalia for a great price ($1300)

I had to have it. Yes, Chinese scooter lovers, you pay more for a Vespa.
2015 Infiniti Q70L: 2015-2018
Bought to replace the G37S, and I thought I wanted a big sedan instead of a sport coupe. I liked it, but never really loved it. Decided I wanted something fun, but that would work for Toby.
2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI (6 Speed manual) 2018-present

ittle did I know that what I really wanted was a German hot hatch.

Woohoo, owned one of the same cars as IM...close. Working on my timeline, but I had an ‘87 Acura Legend with the 2.5 V6 and 5 speed manual. I really liked that car, but understand how it can be “meh” with an auto (I assume?).
